Zinc Details Opens Pop-up Design Shop at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
July 9th - October 3rd

Opening Night Party: Friday, July 9th, 8 - 11pm

visit us at YBCA!

In conjunction with the YBCA exhibition TechnoCRAFT- curated by acclaimed designer Yves Behar- Zinc Details will operate a "pop-up shop" at YBCA's "Room for Big Ideas" space from July 9th through October 3rd. Visitors can peruse and purchase home furnishings, gadgets and accessories designed by artists in the exhibition, as well as items that capture the flavor of and relate to TechnoCRAFT, including a wide variety of books and magazines. The pop-up shop is FREE to access and it's open to the public during Thursday through Saturday from 12pm to 8 pm, on Sunday from 12pm to 6 pm. The shop will be open late during special events at YBCA.

TechnoCRAFT explores how the boundary between the role of the designer and the consumer is disappearing. Curated by acclaimed designer Yves Behar, the exhibition traces the current trend in design away from fixed objects toward open "design platforms" that invite people to participate in the creative process. Selected works span the spectrum from intentionally collaborative (such as platforms where individuals can customize their products) to outsider hacks, where "finished" products are adapted or modified by the user. Special attention is paid to the intersection of technology and craft that encourages an unprecedented level of user participation with profound implications for the future of design and experience making.

We are excited to introduce new Design House Stockholm 2009 collection at Zinc Details. This year they have introduced so many new products and we can't tell you how excited we are and we hope you'll come in a store to look, touch, try and play with them. Here's little run down and sneak peek on their new products.

Silver Light by Magnus Löfgren Put a candle in the candle holder and see the flame reflected in the silver plated disc set upright in the crystal base. Magnus Löfgren's Silver Light strives to create the same archetypical expression as with his Shell candle holder (see opposite). Silver Light is made of solid black, optic crystal and silver-plated metal. It comes in Design House Stockholm's signature black gift box. Magnus has been collaborating with Design House Stockholm since the very beginning. His early successes are the Shell candle holder and the Focus vase. He was educated at HDK, the School of Design and Craft at Gothenburg University and has his own design studio in Stockholm.

Pleato by Marianne Abelsson Marianne Abelsson's Pleato scarf, with its easy-to-wear science-fiction aesthetic quality, soft curvy fringe and metallic sheen, ads more than just that little extra warmth. Drape the garment around the neck, the chest or the waist, or play with it to create your own personal look. Light is reflected in a shimmer of gold, bronze and silver, depending on the color chosen. The Pleato Scarf is made of rayon and polyester, and retains its characteristic pleating after washing. Marianne studied at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås, but she has also been working with glass. She has run her own business for many years. Her acclaimed Pleece collection won the Excellent Swedish Design Award in 1999.

Pipette bottles by Camill a Kropp Exact measures of oil and vinegar for the table in balanced simplicity. Camilla Kropp has devised new functionality for the well-known instruments used in laboratories and pharmacies. The Pipette Bottles refine the centuries-old design to conquer a new context. The bottles measure the exact amount of condiment, and are suitable for soy sauce as well. Camilla moved from Finland to Germany to work as a freelance designer. She acquired her MA degree at the London Royal College of Art, and she has been trained in ceramic design at Arabia, and in glass design at the Nuutajärvi glass factory in Finland.

Katarina Häll graduated from Beckmans College of Design in 2006, and specialises in product, furniture, interior, and exhibition design. Her works often ad a poetic twist to everyday objects. Poem was a part of her final project at Beckmans.

Björk by Lena Bergström The Björk rugs and interior cushions and their patterned structure are a modern product with enriched textile quality for contemporary use. Lena Bergström found her inspiration in the birch tree and its rough black and white trunk which has a unique and strong graphical structure. The leather edging alludes to the inside of the bark. Girard Wooden Dolls Girard Wooden Dolls

Alongside Charles and Ray Eames as well as George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures in post-War American design. The focus of his broad oeuvre was on textile design, and a key source of inspiration for him was his passion for the popular art of South America, Asia and East Europe. The Wooden Dolls, which Girard created for his own home in Santa Fe and made himself, are likewise inspired by his own extensive collection of works of popular art. Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally intended only for personal use. Based on documents and originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the partly joyful, partly grim-looking company of dolls is now coming out as a limited edition as a charming enhancement to any interior.

Materials: solid firwood, hand painted. Delivered with a brochure in a high-quality printed wooden box.
