Zinc Details "Musical Chairs" Party hosts winners of first annual Eco-chair Design Competition from California College of the Arts, April 16.

Zinc Details will host a "Musical Chairs" party for winners of the first annual California College of the Arts Eco-chair design competition at the Zinc Details location at 2410 California Street in San Francisco., Wednesday, April 16. The party runs from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The public is invited with RSVP to chairs@bevaradesign.com.

The event is co-sponsored by Bevara Design House and Zinc Details. Winners of the "Best Design" competition receive the ultimate prize - having their chair manufactured and sold through retailers like Zinc Details.

"Musical Chairs" guests can participate in the fun by voting for the People's Choice Winner. Winner of the People's Choice Award will receive a prize from Zinc Details.

The event features food, beverages, music, and the chance to hob-nob with design celebrities. Honorary judges for the design competition include Karim Rashid, Method's Eric Ryan, Peter Stathis, Chris Deam, David Edwards, social designer Zoe Melo, Eco designer Kimberly Rider, and Design Icon's Vladimir Kagan.

TasteTV brings another chocolate-tasting to Zinc Details with chocolatiers from TeaRoom Chocolates and Cosmic Chocolates sharing their wares at Zinc Details, 1905 Fillmore Street in San Francisco, on Thursday, March 20 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Last year's chocolate tasting packed the house, says Zinc Details owner Vasilios Kiniris, so he advises chocolate aficionados to arrive on time and bring a sweet tooth.

The chocolatiers will be at Zinc Details to distribute samples, answer questions, and sign copies of the 2008 Western edition of The Chocolate Guide. Besides free samples, chocolates will be available for purchase.

Zinc Details Hosts California College of the Arts Student Designs for Gaia & Gino - through Sept. 30

Will feature student work for international design firm Gaia & Gino ; to be part of CCA's 100th Anniversary Celebration

During September, Zinc Details will feature a special showing of design works by students from the California College of the Arts (CCA). The exhibition will be at the Zinc Details California Street location, 2410 California St. in San Francisco.


CCA Students + Yves Behar + Gaia & Gino + Dogs + 6 month studio period = an unbeatable match… the Gino the Dog collection of luxury canine accessories. There is Chew, a leg cover resembling a tree branch by Jennifer Yoko Olson. Twins are the matching food and water bowls by Richie Tanaka. Wild is the porcelain food and water bowl set by Brandon Warren. These canine specialties will be at Zinc Details, San Francisco, in September.

The exhibition is in conjunction with the 100th Anniversary of CCA and will also be a part of the "Architecture in the City" program sponsored by the American Institute of Architect-San Francisco. The AIA-SF program runs from September 1st through the 30th.

The CCA student designers are under the direction of Prof. Yves Béhar, Chair of the CCA Industrial Design Department. Béhar is also the art director for the Gino the Dog brand, the dog accessory line from Turkish design firm, Gaia & Gino.

Opening Reception for Beholder Gallery March 15, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Zinc's new "Dot Spot" kicked off by Champions of the Good Design Movement

BLU DOT logo Zinc Details hosted a reception for John Christakos and Maurice Blanks, two of the co-founders of the innovative furniture design firm Blu Dot on Friday, February 9 at the Zinc Details on California Street.

Known for its imaginative manufacturing techniques and love for the masters of 20th Century design, Blu Dot has been called "the latest in affordable cool."

Designers Christakos and Blanks spoke about the unique Blu Dot design process and helped inaugurate Zinc's new "Dot Spot" at its 2410 California Street showroom. Zinc Details is proud to announce its affiliation with the Minneapolis-based firm and its position as the only Blu Dot dealer in Northern California.

American Contemporary Furniture says that "with the inventive, can-do spirit that characterized the work of the Eameses, Blu Dot has resurrected the values of the Good Design movement and its popular potential."

Chocolate and wine lovers indulged both passions and got signed copies of A. K. Crump's book, "Chocolate French: Recipes, Language, and Directions to Français au Chocolat," and met Louis Brouillet, CEO of NewTree Chocolates

Zinc Details and TasteTV hosted the San Francisco launch party for A. K. Crump's new book, Chocolate French: Recipes, Language, and Directions to Français au Chocolate, on January 18 at the Zinc Details California Street store in in San Francisco.

The event featured tastings from chocolatiers NewTree and Mariebelle Chocolates and wine from Foppiano Vineyards and others.

Crump's travel guide/cookbook features recipes from San Francisco's Lulu, Café de la Presse, Le Zinc, Absinthe and the Lycee Français La Perouse, Berkeley's La Note Provençal, New Orleans's Broussards, Chicago's French Pastry School, Napa's Bouchon and Copia, and Paris' Jean Paul Hevin and Le Cordon Bleu.

Zinc Details Holiday Party was packed for Future of Design presentation, Art by Caroline Seckinger, and Tour by Cell Phone

The December 8th holiday party at Zinc Details' California Street location was a trifecta for Zinc-o-philes. Marieke van der Poel of Peclers Paris, a leading international forecaster of trends in fashion and design, gave an illustrated presentation on "Design Trends for 2007-2008." Artist Caroline Seckinger was on hand to talk about her most recent work that brings new excitement to the theory of color. And visitors could use their own cell phones for a guided tour of modern design classics by the likes of Philippe Starck, Alver Aalto, Tord Boontje, and Jasper Morrison.

And, of course there were wonderful hors d'oeuvres, adult beverages, and good conversation. Lots to see, lots to talk about.

Zinc Details Kick-Off Party for "Architecture + the City" Series a Huge Success

AIA Kickoff party The new Zinc Details store on California Street was filled with all manner of mavens for the "3rd Annual Architecture + the City" series Kick-off Party on September 1st.

The series is presented annually by the American Institute of Architects, San Francisco Chapter (AIA San Francisco) and Center for Architecture + Design.

Isamu Noguchi Program Packs California St. Store in Sept.

Zinc Details hosted a full house for the Sept. 7th reception and lecture by Doug De Nicola of the Isamu Noguchi Museum.

De Nicola spoke and showed slides of the life and work of Isamu Noguchi, one of the 20th Century's most critically acclaimed and influential artist/designers. The event was part of the month-long "Architecture + the City" Series, produced by the San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

After De Nicola's presentation, a drawing was held for an original Noguchi-designed lamp, won by SFSU architecture student Virginia Flores.

New California Street Store Zinc Details Opens Its Third Store

New California Street location in San Francisco is around the corner from the original Fillmore Street store. Zinc retains its Berkeley store, as well.

Zinc Details has opened a second San Francisco store at 2410 California Street in the Fillmore neighborhood. The new store is two blocks from the original Zinc Details at 1905 Fillmore Street. The California Street store will house Zinc’s lines of contemporary designer furniture by Atlantico, Knoll, Kartell, and others. The original Fillmore Street store will continue to feature contemporary accessories for kitchen, bath, and den, as well as toys and accessories for children. Zinc Details also retains its location on Fourth Street in Berkeley.

"The new location gives us a much larger show room for our furniture, rugs, and lamps. At the same time, we’ll have double the space at our Fillmore Street store for the designer tableware and ceramics and all the smaller items we feature," says Zinc Details’' owner, Vasilios Kiniris.

Ivan Luini, president of Kartell US, packed the gallery at Zinc Details for his October 6 reception. Luini, the New York-based representative of the famous Italian furniture manufacturing firm, demonstrated Kartell's innovative use of extruded plastics over the last 60 years. Zinc Details displayed furniture created through this process, including Philippe Starck's "Ghost Chair" and whimsical "Gnome Table." Mr. Luini's lecture was part of the AIA SF "Architecture in the City" series running through the month of October.

Lotta Jansdotter and Vasilio Kiniris Lotta Jansdotter Reception Fills Fillmore Store

Lotta Jansson, founder of San Francisco design house Lotta Jansdotter, filled Zinc Details’ Fillmore Street store on July 21 for her reception and discussion. Ms. Jansson talked about her design inspiration and autographed her work.

Born in Finland and raised in Sweden, Lotta Jansson creates a myriad of striking, screen-printed home products. Her work reflects the spirit of Scandinavia. Her colorful and compelling designs include ceramics, table linens, bags, stationery, and other items.

Her work has been featured in major design magazines almost from the day she began and has won her an enthusiastic following abroad, particularly in Japan.


SFMOMA Party-goers Lounge on Zinc Details Furniture Again

Guests at the June Member Sessions Party at SFMOMA sipped vodka drinks and wine while reclining on Zinc Details couches, chairs, and even a bed!

Once again, Zinc created two "lounge environments" for the cocktail party in the Schwab Room at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

"We chose retro pieces this time to match the art of Jeremy Blake," said Zinc Details owner Vasilios Kiniris.

Blake's work is currently featured at SFMOMA. It includes a 3-screen video inspired by the famous Winchester Mystery House.

"You can't get much more retro than that," Kiniris said.

Carl Magnusson Reception for Carl Magnusson a Smashing Success

Design Icon for Knoll, Inc. spoke at Zinc Details on March 16

Design aficionados packed the Zinc Details showroom in San Francisco on March 16 to meet Carl Magnusson, Executive Vice President of Design for furniture manufacturer Knoll, Inc. The ever-gracious Magnusson mingled with the crowd before and after his slide presentation on the career of Florence "Shu" Knoll, co-founder of Knoll, Inc., and a major influence on interior and space design. The party afterward gave everyone a chance to chat with the man who is himself a design icon.

Born in Sweden, Carl Magnusson studied architecture and design in the U.S. and Sweden. He began his career with Charles Eames, later joining Knoll as Director of Graphics and Showroom Design.

Knoll Space Zinc Details designated Knoll Space retailer in Northern California.

Knoll has chosen Zinc Details in San Francisco and Berkeley as its designated "Knoll Space" retailer in Northern California. Zinc will sell Knoll's iconic modern classic and contemporary furniture designs for the home.

The store now features KnollStudio classic century designs, including tables and chairs by Eero Saarinen, Jens Rosen, and Warren Platner. The many selections include chairs from the Bertoia Collection, popular Knoll pieces like the Jamaica Barstool of Pepe Cortes, and other items.
